Bradley Scott Sayer, 18, is accused of fatally shooting Jacob 'Cody' Hull, 46, and Robert Johnson, 77, at the Chico Branch Library on June 22. New details revealed in court describe how prosecutors say Sayer planned the attack, carried it out, and attempted to set the library on fire before his arrest. Sayer has autism and was inspired by mass shootings, particularly the Columbine High School shooting. He retrieved two .22-caliber rifles, a 20-gauge pump-action shotgun, and ammunition from his father's home before recording a video of himself in black clothing with a white T-shirt bearing the phrase 'Natural Selection.' Sayer drove to the library, initially entered without weapons, returned to his vehicle to retrieve the shotgun, and then re-entered the building.

He shot Hull in the leg before killing him, and later fired randomly at patrons inside the library. Library staff were able to move some people into a back room and lock the door. Sayer's mother did not have firearms in her home, and all of the weapons used belonged to his father.
