According to the Chico Police Department, a woman sunbathing near the Bear Hole swimming area in Bidwell Park was sexually assaulted early in the afternoon on June 9. The incident prompted an investigation that led CPD officers to arrest a 20-year-old suspect two days later. The victim reported that a man grabbed and held her down while she was sunbathing and subjected her to unwanted sexual contact. At one point, the suspect picked her up and began carrying her, leading her to believe he was attempting to take her to a more secluded area of the park.
The case was then forwarded to Chico police detectives for follow-up. Detectives used a video recording made by the victim to establish a physical description and identified the suspect as 20-year-old Kabongo Dingao. On June 11, CPD detectives obtained an arrest warrant and took Dingao into custody without incident.
